Antigua's coastline is cut into deep protected inlets — English Harbour, Falmouth, Nonsuch Bay — with reliable trade winds outside them. If anyone aboard actually wants to sail rather than motor between lunches, this is the island for it, and the spring regatta season is the best week of the Caribbean year to be here.
Barbuda, twenty-odd miles north, is the counterweight. Low, flat and nearly empty, with a beach that runs for miles in pale pink sand and a frigate bird colony in the lagoon. You anchor off it and generally see no one all day.
Best time to go
December – April
Trade winds are steadiest from January to April, which is why the sailing weeks and the spring regattas land there. December is quieter on the water.

Go up for the view over both harbours at the end of the day, ideally on a Sunday.
