The point of a yacht here is Pampelonne: five kilometres of open sand you can lie off all day and leave whenever you have had enough of it.
Arriving from the sea changes the town. Instead of the road from Sainte-Maxime in August, you come round Cap Saint-Pierre and drop the anchor in the Baie des Canoubiers or off the beach itself, and the day is yours — long swims before it warms up, the toys out mid-morning, lunch on deck rather than a table you had to fight for.
Ashore is a short tender ride, taken on your terms. A beach lunch at Pampelonne if that is the mood, or the old port in the early evening: the market square, the narrow streets behind it, dinner at La Ponche or on the quay, and back on board when the town is still going. In between there is real cruising — the Baie de Cavalaire, the Îles d'Hyères, Porquerolles a couple of hours west.
Best time to go
May – September
July and August are the loudest and the most social. June and the first half of September give you the same warm water, an emptier Pampelonne anchorage and a village you can actually walk through at eight in the evening.

The calmer side of the peninsula, sheltered from the mistral and a ten-minute tender from the old port.

Clear water and almost no building at all — the swim stop most guests remember over any beach club.
Porquerolles
Two hours west, pine forest and sand, and a useful antidote to a heavy weekend in the bay.
