The Maddalena archipelago sits in the strait between Sardinia and Corsica: granite, white sand and shallows that read almost tropical. Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria, Caprera. Most of it is reachable only by boat, and a week can pass moving a few miles a day between bays, swimming straight off the yacht and eating aboard.
Porto Cervo and the Costa Smeralda give the week its other side when you want it — dinner ashore, shopping, an evening out — and are easy to leave behind the next morning. If a change of scenery appeals, southern Corsica is a short crossing of the Bonifacio strait.
Best time to go
June – September
July and August bring the liveliest atmosphere in Porto Cervo. June and September are quieter in the Maddalena anchorages, with the same water.
