The last chain in the Caribbean where you can still anchor for a night and find yourself alone.
The Tobago Cays are the reason people come back: five uninhabited islets sitting inside a horseshoe reef, with turtles grazing the shallows and swell breaking a mile away while you lie flat inside it. There is nothing built there, no bar, no road, only a marine park and the water.
Around it the chain has enough variety for a week. Bequia is a boatbuilding island with a proper harbour and real life ashore, Mustique is private, quiet and where you go for one good dinner, and Mayreau and Canouan sit in between. The distances are short and the reef is in better condition than most of the region.
Best time to go
December – April
January to April is the driest and steadiest. The chain is far enough south that hurricane risk drops away, but the season still runs winter into spring.

Bequia
Admiralty Bay, a boatbuilding tradition still alive, and the most genuine town in the chain.
Mustique
One evening ashore on a private island, then back out to a quieter anchorage.
Mayreau
Salt Whistle Bay, a sandbar with the Atlantic on one side and flat water on the other.
