Two thirds of St John is national park, and it is the reason the bays there still look untouched while the island next door does not.
Trunk Bay, Maho, Waterlemon — the north shore of St John is a run of protected anchorages backed by forest rather than development, with marked snorkel trails over the reef and hiking trails behind the beach. It is a rare thing in the Caribbean: a coastline that was legally stopped from being built on.
St Thomas handles flights, provisioning and any guest changes, so the logistics are simple. St Croix is further south and quieter again. And because the British Virgin Islands are a few miles east, most weeks here quietly become weeks across both.
Best time to go
November – May
December to April is driest. St Thomas has direct flights from the US mainland year-round, which makes short winter weeks realistic here.
