A city that goes almost vertically into the sea, and one of the few places where the yacht sits in the middle of it rather than off a beach.
Monaco is the urban end of this coast. From the water you see the whole of it at once — Port Hercules under the palace rock, Monte-Carlo stacked above, the Tête de Chien behind. Alongside in the port you step off and you are already there: the Casino square, Hôtel de Paris, Le Louis XV, the Metropole shops, the Larvotto beaches, all within a short walk.
The days still belong to the sea. Cap Ferrat and the Villefranche roadstead are twenty minutes west, Menton and the Italian border a similar run east, and the water off Cap Martin is deep and clear enough to spend a morning in. What Monaco adds is the option to end the evening in a city rather than at anchor.
One honest note: berths in Port Hercules are limited and tightly controlled, and during major weeks they are committed long in advance. We will tell you plainly what is available for your dates, and when the right answer is to stay at anchor off Cap Martin or in Villefranche instead.
Best time to go
May – September
Late May and late September carry the Grand Prix and the Yacht Show, and the port is committed far in advance. Midsummer is calmer in the harbour and easier to plan around.

Alongside in the middle of the Principality, when a berth can be secured for your dates.
Monte-Carlo ashore
Dinner at Le Louis XV or the Blue Bay, the Casino square, and the shops on Avenue des Beaux-Arts, all on foot.
Cap Ferrat & Villefranche
Twenty minutes west, a deep sheltered bay for swimming and one of the calmest overnight anchorages on the coast.
Cap Martin & Menton
East along the shore towards the Italian border, quieter water and lunch in Roquebrune or Menton.
